25/6/2025 Wow! We went for steak for a family celebration. The atmosphere, service and food was sublime. Made to feel so welcome a cracking young waiter. We had dietary needs that were catered for sensitively. It was such a treat and I never want to eat steak anywhere else
Great location, right on the main road. We walked across the moor from Moortown. It was a very rainy day so it was quiet when we got there but the staff were friendly and served our group of 10 with drinks and took our food order. The steaks are cooked on open coals and looked amazing as did all the dishes served up. A great little place with lots of character
Fabulous local beef cooked to perfection. What a find, we will be back. Our dog enjoyed his steak treats from the chef! Great value, we saw the prices but then realised the steak came with chips, salad and peppercorn sauce, so actually for the meat quality it was a great price. Puddings are very large and the sticky toffee pudding was excellent. Thoroughly enjoying lunch with family.
I can't speak for the inn itself but the food and service here are outstanding and consistently so! Always happy to help you pick your cut and they cook the meat to perfection and according to your preference. The meat is simply seasoned and thrown on the fire and the results are just incredible. Great quality meat cooked simple but well to let said quality shine through. The sides are also delicious and good portions. Drink selection is great. The staff is genuinely lovely. Very dog friendly too! What more can one ask for? Would highly recommend and can't wait to be back.
We popped in for lunch. Four of us. We experienced truly great food and a nice. My brother’s girlfriend said it was the steak she ever had.
A meat lovers dream this restaurant. Dogs and human patrons enjoy seeing the beef being grilled on a fireplace in front of them.
This place is focussed on good quality local steak which is a treat. The brownie to follow was also delicious.The service is good but the restaurant was cold and I noticed several people keeping their coats on. I think the boys who run it are a bit acclimated to Dartmoor! Both my dog and I were welcome.
A truly exceptional dinner this evening, the steak was cooked to perfection. We certainly will be heading back there in the next few weeks. Keep up the great work guys.
